If you do not pay the instalment amount for your student loan by the payment deadline, the full loan will be sent to us temporarily. When your student loan has been temporarily transferred to us, the rights and agreements you have with the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen) still remain.

If you do not pay or enter into a voluntary payment plan with us, we must collect the student loan through enforcement proceedings.

Deferring the payment

You must contact Lånekassen to find out what your rights are or, if relevant, apply for a payment deferral. In many cases, you'll be able to transfer the loan back to Lånekassen and avoid incurring new interest on overdue payment.

Any interest on overdue payment and reminder fees that have already been added to your loan will not be cancelled even if you defer the bill, they will only be added to the next payment.

You must contact us if you want to split the claim into instalments.

Your loan is transferred back to Lånekassen when you pay

Your student loan will be transferred back to Lånekassen when you pay the full defaulted amount and interest on overdue payment according to the letter we sent you. If the payment deadline for the claim has passed, you must contact us to find out what the updated and correct amount is.

It is more profitable for you to have the student loan transferred back to Lånekassen. Then you can follow the original payment plan without having any added interest on overdue payment, which will be calculated on the full loan. You will also keep your rights to, for example, payment deferral and havingyour interest deleted in Lånekassen.
